Identifying Grain Structure and Scaling on Jade
Переглядів 5464 місяці тому
Jade is a fibrous stone. Without enough metamorphic heat and pressure, the process does not fully laminate the boulder. Learning to distinguish the signs of good vs poor lamination, as well as grain direction will help you become a better carver. Cross Cutting Jade; What happens?
Переглядів 4284 місяці тому
Poor quality jade should be cut with the grain. The better the jade gets, the less that matters. Top quality jade can be gauged by how well it holds a "knife edge" during cross cutting. What Colors of Jade Exist in British Columbia, Canada
Переглядів 4614 місяці тому
Jade exists in one color only throughout all of British Columbia, Canada. That color is green. "Mutton Fat Jade" as some call it from the Fraser River is in fact not jade. It is sillimanite. Windowing Jade
Переглядів 2925 місяців тому
"Windowing" is a gemology term used to describe the action of creating visibility into a gemstone. It most often has to do with eliminating host rock, dirt, weathering or any material that impedes viewing the true nature of the gemstone. Windowing is done to help assess yield. With Jade, we window it by cutting a big chunk off. Learn more about Jade and visit the best hub for sourcing quality B...
Why do people put a Light behind Jade?
Переглядів 2,5 тис.5 місяців тому
Most people I see using a Gem Torch/ Light on Jade are doing so for the wrong reasons. An led light will give a false sense of jade color because of the Lumen Level, meaning the "hot or coldness" of the light. Another way to consider this is the kelvin level. A light is in fact used to see inclusions, not color. Learn more about Jade and visit the best hub for sourcing quality BC Jade Rough The...
Where does Jade Come From?
Переглядів 5695 місяців тому
We mine jade two different ways. The main one is In-Situ, taking it directly from its formation on the mountain. The other is taking it from the valley where they were pushed into by glaciers. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
I have been there twice, but I found it steep and difficult, and I found very few crystals, most small. If anyone wants to go there, please wear good, supportive shoes like hiking boots or really strong sneakers.
Nice job
Thanks!
What is that
The title of the video should help clear anything up.
You forgot to show us your finds .. A few of them did have a point. Good hike .. Thanks
I have lot’s of dime to quarter sized Agates of various colour ranging from red to clear fishing trophies if I don’t catch fish i always find Agates and if I don’t find Agates i go home with fish Vancouver B.C.
I am a 12 year old lapidary and I want to be able to find some gems or semi precious anywhere around Duncan?
Just look at my other videos of rockhound sites on the island.
wish this wwas the first search result for moldavite instead people talking about vibrations
Haha thank you.
Don't waste your time it closed.
Can you elaborate? What do you mean closed? This site has been open to RockHounds for decades
@RubbleRockAndGem there Is caution tap all around and says your will be arrested. If you go there . I complained about it to the forest service they said it might be open next year . They said they will cut down the trees and fill in the holes they probably won't let people dig anymore. Talking are land away isn't manging it. You know as well as I do you can't find anything with out digging. Almost all the crystals sites are now closed . But they can sell the land to mining companies sell are forest put cattle all over the forest sell the land to the rich. But we the people can't use it or go to jail. It gets worse every day .
I’m in Arizona I found 3 huge chlorite veins behind my house, sent a friend back to Texas with 100 lbs chunk for their yard “dark Forrest metallic green” I took a bunch for my yard peacock rainbow colored
Is it still open to public?
No
When did it close? It has been open to RockHounds for decades.
@RubbleRockAndGem I went there about a month ago and it was closed. I complained to the forest service they said they have to cut down trees and fill all the holes said maybe next year. Good luck with that they have closed almost all the crystals places in the west. Sick of it taking are land away is not managing it. But they can sell the land to mining companies. Cut down and sell the forest .let cattle all over it sell the land to the rich and let them close it they couldn't do worse if they tried.
WOW
Thanks
Can someone say, would this be good sand for tumbling sea glass or agates?
I never thought of using it for that. From my experience though, garnet sand is affordable from industrial suppliers, and it comes coarse, jagged and sharp to scratch stones. This will be rounded over. Silicon carbide is still cheaper than the gas to get here and far more effective, but you're welcome to go down there, scoop some and try.
Now we know.👍🏻
Yes, there was nothing online about it. Clarifying it. Soooo here it is.
Pretty sure I'm in love.😂😂
🤣🥰
Great video! We'll be up that way later this summer. Id love to find a small chunk of nephrite. Any clue on what beaches might be good for jade hunting??
How much did you pay for a piece that size? I want to buy a big piece of jade but i just want an idea of how much it would cost or something twice time that size?
Go to TheJadeGuys.com. It is the distributor site for bc jade
Dangit! we were just checking out the Pillars of Rome yesterday and had no idea about the opal. So close!

I haven’t been there in probably 20 years. You could drive up to it back in the day
There are large road blocks boulders and a walking path now
Thank you 🥰 You have managed to answer a major part of a question a few of us were discussing regarding orange peel and how to avoid it
Glad it was helpful!
My husband headed to Salmon Arm and Larch Hills.
On this trip?
Awesome! How did you get permission to be on a private claim Adam?
I went with the BCLS during Rendezvous... Essentially, I went to Rock Camp.
thanks for the great videos
Glad you like them!
Great video. Love the colors.❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Personally jade is BEAUTIFUL if I can carve it, the lowest grade jade or the highest dosent matter to me. I want a jade tiger statue in front of my door. It’s a super pretty stone so all of it will be used
Cool! I'm still a fan of the gem grade 😜
Very good presentation brov 👍👍👍. Thumbs up 👍👍👍
Thank you 👍 glad it helped
good video, but some close ups of the agate would have been helpful.
Sorry about that, I'll remember for next time
Great job, thx for sharing.

Hey bud! My wife and I have been watching a bunch of your videos, they are great and educational. We also appreciate that you share the coordinates to all of them, super rad of you! We’re planning an Oregon rock hound trip this summer and wanted to check out McDonald Ranch. Upon doing a google search it says “permanently closed” and the number seems to be disconnected. Do you happen to know anything about this? Thanks! Daniel
Hi, I'm not sure why. They have been open 10 years +. Contact the local rock club and they would be able to get you connected.
Thanks I'll do that. = )
I found some Dallasite on the north island on the flank of a volcano, bottom of creek. Maybe from the fracture zone. Looks rounded though so more likely brought northward by Bonanza volcanics and short burst glaciation, we'll see. Still, at least we can find some up here after all. Found some flowerstone and some metamorphic looks like jasper too so keeping an eye out.
Yes, half of Vancouver Island is dallasite...
I have several that are over two pounds that I pulled out of the willamette River
I don't think they'd be Apache tears then. Perhaps just obsidian cobbles?
where do i find a thin blade like that

Disclaimer: do not lick asbestos bearing rocks. 😂
Serpentine isn't an asbestos bearing rock. It has gone through metamorphic process, and is no longer friable...
